While we greatly appreciate Automotive News' coverage of finance and insurance practices in our industry, some of the comments I provided for a May 31 story, "Group plans dealership seal of approval," may need clarification.
The American International Automobile Dealers Association has not adopted a resolution in favor of a new F&I accrediting group, nor has AIADA endorsed any specific proposal. AIADA's board of directors did pass a resolution simply to enter into a dialogue with the dealers proposing the accreditation - a position that we encourage all members of the industry to be open to.
AIADA believes strongly that steps can and should be taken to help reduce and eliminate shady business practices in the industry - practices that are being perpetuated by few but that have negative repercussions on the entire industry.
We've sought to encourage open dialogue on this issue among not only dealers and manufacturers but also others in the industry, including the media.
