Phil Martens, chairman of the 2004 SAE World Congress, got into the automotive industry because of his passion for performance.
The Ford guy's favorite cars in the 1960s were Dodge's Charger R/T and Coronet R/T. So Martens, 43, is excited about bringing some of the kings of performance to this year's congress, which begins March 8 in Detroit.
Jack Roush, Carroll Shelby and Jackie Stewart will discuss high-performance cars.
"I don't know where else you get a collection of gearheads like this," says Martens, Ford Motor Co.'s group vice president of product creation for North America. He discussed the congress with Staff Reporter Julie Armstrong.
