LOS ANGELES - Mitsubishi Motors North America has named a veteran of Lexus and Lincoln Mercury advertising agencies as vice president of advertising.
Paul Mareski, 35, has spent the last four years with Team One Advertising, where he managed the Lexus national advertising account.
He replaces Greg Stahl, who left the position of director of advertising in December.
Before joining Team One, Mareski worked for eight years at Young & Rubicam on the Lincoln Mercury account.
Vice president of advertising is a new position for Mitsubishi. "Marketing will be the most important thing for 2004," Mitsubishi CEO Finbarr O'Neill told Automotive News in a recent interview. "We have to give people reasons to put us on our shopping lists."
Mitsubishi's U.S. sales fell 25.6 percent in 2003 and were down 33.3 percent in January.
Mareski will report to Ian Beavis, senior vice president of marketing.
Beavis joined Mitsubishi in November. His career has included posts on the factory and agency sides of the business.
He has promoted Ford, Toyota, the Chrysler group and Lincoln Mercury.
Beavis said that Mareski "has a solid track record of automotive advertising experience along with strong leadership skills, which will help us immensely as we evolve our advertising and marketing to spotlight our strong products."
Mareski is a Michigan native and a 1991 graduate of Michigan State University.
