The highly critical Italian press has shifted its focus from beleaguered Fiat Auto to food giant Parmalat. Media there has been consumed with details of all the financial accounting irregularities at Parmalat, especially its admission that some bank deposits were fictional.
Some Fiat insiders have mixed emotions about the change.
"At least it has put the problems we have had into perspective," one executive said. "The problem is now that the Fiat Auto business is turning around, no one is writing about us anymore."
