The rear-drive 2005 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum will launch this spring without optional all-wheel drive, says Eric Ridenour, Chrysler group executive vice president of product development.
All-wheel drive will be available on the Magnum in September and on the 300 in November, Ridenour says.
Production of the 300 began Jan. 19. Magnum production begins in March.
Chrysler opted to phase in awd to ensure manufacturing quality, says Joe Grace, senior manager of the company's premium vehicle platform team.
