LAS VEGAS - The Chrysler group is developing a car with a hybrid powertrain that will reach the market in two to three years, CEO Dieter Zetsche said in a speech at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention on Jan. 31. He also said Mercedes-Benz will bring a diesel-electric hybrid S class to the United States.
Hybrids combine an electric motor with a diesel or gasoline engine.
Zetsche cautioned that hybrids are costlier and heavier than conventional vehicles. He said unknown costs associated with resale value and battery replacement raise questions about the long-term viability of hybrid technology.
