Juergen Hubbert, the DaimlerChrysler board member in charge of the Mercedes car group, said U.S. Mercedes-Benz dealers will get their first view of a Smart showroom mock-up at their national dealer meeting in a few weeks.
He declined to say how many Smart dealerships are necessary, nor did he say what the alternative would be if not enough Mercedes-Benz dealers want the franchise.
Not that Hubbert feels that will happen.
"There's a potential for more than the (ForFour) SUV," Hubbert said.
He added that 57 percent of American market research subjects said they wanted to take the two-seat Smart home from the focus group, "numbers which I never have seen before."
