LOS ANGELES – Nissan North America is dropping the name Pathfinder from its full-sized Pathfinder Armada SUV. In February, the company will start using only the name Armada in advertising and other materials. Vehicle badges will not change until the 2005 model year.
Our strategy during the launch of our first full-sized SUV was to capitalize on our popular mid-sized Pathfinder (SUVs) rich off-road heritage by associating the Pathfinder name with both vehicles, said Fred Suckow, marketing director for Nissan Division. Now, however, were finding strong consumer acceptance of Armada on its own merits.
The Armada went on sale in October. A total of 6,609 units were sold in 2003.
