As promised, Fiat Auto CEO Herbert Demel is keeping silent his first 100 days on the job.
Demel, who took over Fiat Auto November 17, did appear in public last week in Paris to accept the 2004 European Car of the Year award for the Fiat Panda. His first speech about Fiat will be at the Geneva auto show in March.
But his first decisions are starting to filter out.
Late in December, Demel chose the Fiat Stilo replacement design, said to be one of the internal proposals, reversing a two-year pattern of choosing designs from external consultants. Demel apparently opposes showing a concept car previewing Fiat's 2007-2008 new minicar. He thinks the product is too far in the future and showing it could distract consumers from new products.
