Hans-Olov Olsson moved from CEO of Volvo Cars of North America to lead Volvo Car Corp. in 2000. At the time, the newly acquired unit of Ford Motor Co. was riding a U.S. sales record.
When Olsson landed in Detroit this month for the Detroit auto show, Volvo was coming off another U.S. record: 134,586 sales.
The stomach flu forced Olsson, 62, to miss the show's first media day and a Red Wing hockey game. But he recovered, made it to the auto show and found time to speak with Staff Reporter Mark Rechtin.
