WARREN, Ohio -- Delphi Packard Electric Systems, a unit of Delphi Corp., is laying off 214 hourly workers at its plant in Warren, Ohio.
The IUE-CWA employees, mostly production workers, were hired after August 1999, so their jobs are not protected under the Local 717 contract there.
Weve had a steady reduction in our overall volume, which has left the Ohio operations with extra employees, said Delphi Packard spokesman Doug Hoy.
Four thousand IUE workers remain at the plant, which makes parts and systems for wiring harnesses. Hoy said he could not comment on the possibility of similar layoffs at other Delphi Packard plants.
