TRAVERSE CITY, MICH.-- Automotive News asked participants at the Management Briefing Seminars yesterday: How much pressure are you getting from your customers to expand in China?
We keep growing at a really fast path (30 percent a year). But since the market is fast as well, our customers are demanding that we are capable to supply more from China in such a way that we can sustain their requirements for the Chinese market and use the common products to export back.
-- Jose Maria Alapont,
president of international operations,
Were getting a lot of pressure from our customers. Its always one question they ask among many about what were doing to improve our productivity. I dont think theres a disproportionate amount of pressure that its gotta be China.
-- Tom Burke,
vice president of North American and Asian manufacturing operations,
We are there already and produce H4 and 2-filament light bulbs for Europe and the Pacific Rim. Eventually, youll have to be there and have some manufacturing base there. Ford and GM are pressuring their suppliers to have a presence there. Theres pressure to save money.
