TRAVERSE CITY, MICH.-- Delphi Corp.s operations in China do not bid against the suppliers North American units when seeking business from automakers, said Jose Maria Alapont, Delphi president of international operations.
Alapont contradicted a comment from Sean Kelly, Delphis executive director in Mexico, in a report published last week. Alapont said that Kelly didnt use the correct expression in English.
You never bid internally, Alapont said during an interview Monday, Aug. 4, at the Management Briefing Seminar.
He explained that often when Delphi bids for contracts, it proposes a package of plants to handle the work. For example, he said, common components would be produced in China, then shipped to the United States for complicated assembly close to the customer.
