General Motors began production of the Buick Rainier on Monday, July 28. The SUV is being built at GM's Moraine, Ohio, plant alongside the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada. Ford Motor Co. began production of the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey on Monday, July 28. Both minivans are produced in Oakville, Ontario. The Freestar replaces the Windstar, which ended production about a month ago. The GM plant in Janesville, Wis., changed over to build the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL on Wednesday, July 30.
On Friday, Aug. 1, GM's Silao, Mexico, plant changed over to build the 2004 Cadillac Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche and Suburban, and GMC Yukon XL.
With that only two GM models have not changed over to 2004 models: the Saturn Vue (Spring Hill, Tenn.) and the Chevrolet Chevy Pop and Monza (Ramos Arizpe, Mexico).
