PRODUCTION: Cadillac builds new nameplates

  • General Motors begins producing new Cadillac car and truck nameplates today, June 23. Both are 2004 models.

    The XLR has been on the production report for months, but today marks the start of production of salable units. The XLR is built alongside the Chevrolet Corvette at GM's Bowling Green, Ky., assembly plant. It is the first car other than the Corvette to be built there.

    The SRX, a premium sport wagon, begins production today at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Mich.

    The SRX is built alongside the Cadillac CTS.

  • Year-to-date North American car and truck production reached 8 million units on Wednesday, June 18. That was four days later than in 2002.

  • Year-to-date car and truck production in the United States reached 6 million units each on Friday, June 20. That was two days later than in 2002.
