KOLIN, Czech Republic Several suppliers are close to announcing plans to build factories near the Toyota-PSA/Peugeot-Citroen joint venture plant here.
The city of Kolin expects to announce which firms will build production facilities in a supplier park across from the factory. The plant will open in 2005 with an annual capacity of 300,000 units.
A decision should be announced in two months or so, said a source at Kolin City Hall. Tetsuya Yamada, spokesman for Toyota-PSA/ Peugeot-Citroen plant, expects commitments even sooner.
About 10 firms are expected to locate in the 290-hectare supplier park. One supplier has already committed: logistics specialist Gefco, a wholly owned subsidiary of PSA.
Beyond the Kolin supplier park, other parts makers are locating nearby. Two Japanese firms started building new facilities.
Fatuba Industrial, a producer of stamped auto parts, is building a E54 million factory in Havlickuv Brod, 75km southwest of Kolin. The so-called gray-metal plant is to be completed in early 2005.
Toyoda Machine Works is building a factory in Pardubice, about 50km east of Kolin. Toyoda will make transmission and drivetrain components starting in October 2004.
