While Ford's top management continues to deliberate over what to do about introducing a full-blown successor to its Ka mini, the current Ka will get further improvements before the end of its life - whenever that will be.
Among the improvements will probably be a modern diesel engine, electro-hydraulic assisted steering and an auto-manual gearbox. Sources say those changes could arrive in 2005.
But Ford's product development chiefs are still debating how to develop a legitimate successor to the Ka, which could compete with Smart or could be somewhat larger. Ford already killed one planned Ka successor program more than two years ago.
Sources in the supplier community are now hearing that a decision could be made in the not-too-distant future.
