TOKYO -- Honda Motor Co. Ltd. will delay production of a compact car in China because fear of the SARS epidemic has created an engineer shortage.
Honda's Guangzhou plant will begin production of the Fit sedan in August or September, one or two months later than planned, Honda spokesman Masaya Nagai says.
To avoid infection, 100 Honda engineers left for Japan in April. This month, half will return to the plant.
Because of startup delays, Honda has cut projected sales of 20,000 units by several thousand this year.
