Senior Editor John K. Teahen Jr. wrote an interesting article about Buick's centennial in the May 12 issue.
While relating information about Buick's sales history, however, he stated that Buick's "record sales year was 1984 with an astounding 941,611 deliveries. No brand other than Chevrolet and Ford has ever sold more cars in a year."
Come on! Oldsmobile sold more that in each of seven years - 1977, 1978, 1979, 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986. In five of those years, Oldsmobile delivered more than 1 million cars.
Those years represented a far more "astounding" record than Buick's great year in 1984, which was one of 1 million-plus years for Olds.
Let's also not forget those years in the 1970s and 1980s that Oldsmobile was No. 3 in the industry. Set the record straight.
