Ford Motor Co.'s Norfolk, Va., plant built its last 2003-model Ford F-series pickup last week. The plant will be closed for changeover for three weeks. Production of the 2004-model F series will begin
June 9. Pre-production models of the 2004-model Ford Freestar were built last week at Ford's Oakville Assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario. The Freestar will begin production in the third quarter of 2003. The Freestar replaces the Ford Windstar. Year-to-date milestones: DaimlerChrysler's North American car and truck production and General Motors' U.S. truck production each reached 1 million units on Friday, May 16. The DaimlerChrysler milestone was reached 10 days later than in 2002. GM reached the mark eight days earlier than in 2002.
Canada car and truck production reached 1 million units each on Wednesday, May 14. That was five days later than in 2002.
