May 20 -- Maybe Cadillac can appeal to Europeans.
At first it seemed a little arrogant that Cadillac would aim its new SRX luxury sport wagon at the German competition.
The SRX, which bows as a 2004 model, will be priced right between the BMW X5 and the Mercedes ML 350, well north of Acura, Lexus and Infiniti.
Ever since Cadillac started its comeback, GM execs have had their eyes on Europe. They hope to compete with Europe's best and eventually sell a lot of cars there. Wiser heads decided to go slow.
But BMW CEO Helmut Panke recently said nice things about Cadillac design and what the American luxury brand is trying to do to re-assert itself.
For Cadillac, that's tall praise indeed.
