The tiny Smart city car is pointing the way toward a new understanding between city authorities and drivers of small vehicles.
In the UK, Smart has negotiated a unique agreement with the country's biggest urban car park operator National Car Parks (NCP) for a 25 percent discount for any Smart driver using a car park in London's West End.
A six-hour stay in the car park saves £5 (E7.25), the price of London's daily congestion charge.
"We acknowledge the real contribution Smart is making to solving some of the issues facing motorists," said NCP Commercial Director Phil Robinson.
An electronic sensor at the car park entrance recognizes the Smart and automatically issues a discount-rate ticket.
