Thierry Dombreval, head of sales and marketing at Toyota Motor Europe, says he is shocked by the indifference shown by European Union authorities and national governments to the green credentials of the Prius, Toyota's hybrid car.
Toyota's call for government incentives for its hybrid car have so far fallen on deaf ears, he told journalists in Paris.
"Nobody seems to be interested in encouraging this technique, even temporarily," Dombreval says. He hopes EU attitude will change once other carmakers start offering hybrids.
"I hope this will give more visibility" to the technology, he says.
Dombreval was speaking a few weeks before Toyota unveils a redesigned Prius in Europe.
