Federal-Mogul Corp. will invest $9 million to improve its automotive brake pad manufacturing plant in Orangeburg, S.C., the supplier said Friday.
The money will be used to increase production capacity and speed by installing four new automated production lines. The lines will be in operation by the end of June and are expected to cut production time significantly, Fed-Mogul said.
The move is part of the company's ongoing efforts to ramp up manufacturing efficiency.
Federal-Mogul's Orangeburg plant supplies brake pads to suppliers such as Robert Bosch Corp. and TRW Automotive, which supply the Big 3 with brake systems for light trucks, including the Dodge Ram.
Federal-Mogul of Southfield, Mich., ranks No. 31 on Automotive News' list of the Top 150 original equipment suppliers to North America. The company, which had $1.4 billion in 2002 original equipment sales in North America, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2001. It expects to emerge from bankruptcy this year.
