DETROIT - A fund created in honor of auto industry pioneer Heinz Prechter has donated $345,000 to researchers at Stanford University's Pediatric Bipolar Disorders Program.
The donation comes after a dinner last October that raised more than $1.25 million. Organizers say the dinner was the largest fund-raising event for manic depression in U.S. history.
The grant, to be distributed over two years, will contribute to the study of children of bipolar parents and the genetics of manic depression.
The Heinz C. Prechter Fund for Manic Depression was established by Waltraud "Wally" Prechter. Her husband, who founded sunroof maker ASC Inc., committed suicide in 2001 after a 30-year battle with the disorder.
