As the likelihood of war with Iraq grows, some auto execs in Germany are nervously watching public opinion polls in the United States.
They are afraid that Americans will stop buying German products because the German government opposes war with Iraq.
Over here, it's not much of an issue. Americans aren't all that enthusiastic about going to war. And even those who are geeked about war don't seem to be giving up their Volkswagens or BMWs just because of what a few politicians do in Europe.
That could change. If the war drags on and American losses grow, there could be some resentment toward our allies who stayed home.
But if that happens, it won't make much difference. A protracted war will hurt everybody's car sales.
