CHICAGO -- A supercharged V-6 will power the 2004 Chevrolet Impala SS and 2004 Monte Carlo Supercharged SS that go on sale this fall.
The 3.8-liter engine will generate 240 hp at 5,200 rpm and 280 pounds-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm.
Chevrolet expects that SS models will make up 10 percent of Impala and Monte Carlo sales.
"Strategically we look at SS to be the bridge between our halo vehicles, the SSR and Corvette, and our mainstream core volume," says Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet marketing general manager. "So SS is an attainable aspiration."
