BOMBAY, India -- India's largest truckmaker, Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. Ltd., known as TELCO, said Monday that its vehicle sales in January in the domestic market jumped 29 percent from a year earlier to 23,316 units.
Domestic sales in the 10 months to January rose 26 percent to 165,276 vehicles, it said in a statement released after market hours.
Its truck and bus sales in January rose a little more than 29 percent to 10,746 units.
It sold 12,570 utility vehicles and cars in January, its highest ever monthly sales of passenger vehicles.
TELCO said this was boosted by robust sales of its recently launched sedan, the Tata Indigo.
Indigo's January sales stood at 2,146 units, which the company said represented a 27 percent market share in the mid-sized segment, ahead of 10 competitors.
