The factory will produce steering rod and airbag connectors, said Akira Matsui, director of Czech operations. The CZK385 million (E12.2 million) greenfield factory is expected to employ at least 190 people when the three-year development project is finished.
Furukawa also plans to build a research and development department at the site.
The plant is in the Kladno industrial zone just east of Prague, near a new Showa Aluminum parts plant. Furukawa employs around 20 at a smaller site south of Prague.
About 70 percent of production will be for local Czech customers, with the rest shipped to the UK.
