WINDSOR, Ontario -- The Canadian government risks losing the Chrysler group's new assembly plant here, Canadian Auto Workers President Buzz Hargrove warned on Friday, Feb. 7.
"My information is that within the next couple weeks if (Chrysler) doesn't have something concrete from the Ontario government, then they are going to start exploring other alternatives," he said. "If our government doesn't get a package together, then it may very well end up in Mexico or the southern United States."
Chrysler has asked major suppliers to participate in building and owning a joint-venture assembly plant that would begin operating in 2005. The plant would build a production version of the Dodge M-80 concept, a small pickup.
