WINDSOR, Ont. - The head of DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler arm said on Friday he was confident the automaker will increase its U.S. market share this year after sales fell 12 percent in January.
"We certainly don't judge a year by one month," Chrysler President and Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche told reporters at the launch of Chrysler's new Pacifica wagon at an assembly plant here.
"I am confident that we will not only hold but likely improve our market share this year," he said.
Zetsche added that thanks to an improved mix of vehicles, this month was already showing an improvement over January.
"We feel confident and strong that we will make our point in the marketplace," he said.
The Pacifica, a six-passenger wagon that Chrysler says has no direct competitors in the U.S. market, is one of the keys to Chrysler's strategy.
