To J Smith, general manager and partner at Flow BMW in Winston-Salem, N.C., the reasons for participating in a manufacturer-certified used-vehicle program are readily apparent: "It's the best thing for the customers because they have a warranty from the manufacturer, not from the dealer or salespeople."
But the benefits of a certified vehicle program are not limited to the customers.
"It's a lot easier for our salespeople to sell those vehicles, and there's no stigma attached to owning or selling a certified vehicle, like there tends to be with a used car," Smith adds.
"Plus, I know they'll come back to me for service. That's not always the case with used cars."
Smith says Flow BMW sells about 40 used vehicles a month, 25 of which are certified. "Ninety percent of our used BMWs are certified," he says. "If they can be certified, we certify them."
The dealership has participated in BMW's program from the beginning.
"We've being doing this for five or six years," he says. "In fact, we were one of the first BMW stores in the nation to participate in the program."
