Press coverage last January of the financial problems at Ford Motor Co. overshadowed the ascension of Tony Brown to vice president of global purchasing. But for Ford's suppliers, Brown, 46, is the man who sets the tone as the company works to improve quality, cut costs and improve supplier relations.
Brown has been on the supplier side of the fence. Before joining Ford in July 1999, he was vice president of supply management for UT Automotive.
