SO PAOLO Cantarella of Fiat is to be paid off with E20 million (June 17 edition). Oddly enough, I don't remember seeing his job advertised 10 years ago. What did it say? "Wanted: senior executive to orchestrate the decline of one of the world's top carmakers and then, in his last few years, take a stand against the block exemption with ACEA which will, in retrospect, be seen as foolish and immensely damaging to Europe's vehicle manufacturers?
"Pay: E20 million."
Surely, such skills should be better rewarded.
