I am opposed to Sen. Paul Wellstone's (D-Minn.) bill that would require the auto manufacturers to release their computer codes to independent service/repair facilities.
We spend hundreds, perhaps thousands, of hours educating our technicians and thousands of dollars getting the proper equipment to diagnose the problems/concerns of our customers.
My technicians are very proud of being recognized as Senior Master Technicians by Ford Motor Co.
Wellstone wants to take that distinction away from my technicians.
What about the secret sauce of McDonald's Big Mac, the 11 herbs and spices of KFC, Coca-Cola's secret formula for Coke?
Why not give those to every hamburger, chicken and bottling company to share and share alike?
We take pride in being a Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership. We have been selling Fords since 1915.
I can say that the General Motors, Chrysler, Toyota, BMW dealers in this country are very proud to support their communities, and Sen. Wellstone wants to take our livelihood away from us.
