MUNICH, Germany -- UnitedAuto Group's German subsidiary will expand in that country to take advantage of changes in European regulations concerning vehicle sales and distribution.
"The level of investment will depend on the individual cases," said Jens Werner, head of UnitedAuto Group Germany GmbH.
Werner is the son of former Mercedes-Benz boss Helmut Werner, who is a close friend of Roger Penske, UnitedAuto Group CEO.
UnitedAuto Group Germany in March formed a joint venture with German auto retailer Nix to operate Toyota and Lexus franchises in Frankfurt and Offenbach/Wachtersbach, Germany.
The partners are building a center in Frankfurt at a cost of about $6.9 million.
UnitedAuto Group is the second largest dealer group in the United States. Its U.S. dealerships had sales of more than $5.9 billion in 2001.
