Auto distributor Porsche Holding reported record revenues of 5.6 billion in the year ending March 31.
With distribution in 11 European countries and the USA, Porsche Holding consolidated its position as Europe's largest privately owned auto sales company.
Porsche Holding is owned by the Porsche and Piëch families.
Revenue increased 6.8 percent for the year despite slumping western European markets because Porsche Holding gained volume in eastern and central Europe. The company distributes a wide range of brands and is also the exclusive dealer for Volkswagen group vehicles in several eastern European markets.
'Our strong position in the European markets rests on our major presence in the Austrian market, the growth markets of eastern Europe and the diversity of our business in western Europe,' said Wolf-Dieter Hellmaier, a member of the management board.
'Altogether this helps us to overcome the present weakness of the European car and truck markets,' he added.
According to provisional figures, Porsche Holding sold a total of 310,476 cars and trucks in the year ending March 31, up 6.6 percent on the previous 12 months.
Revenue from eastern European sales rose 21.5 percent to 1.31 billion.
Despite the weak western European market, Porsche Holding revenue there rose 17.5 percent last year. That's mainly because French dealership chain PGA, which is 50 percent owned by Porsche Holding, acquired Dutch auto-dealer chain Nefkens.
Revenue from Austrian operations rose 0.3 percent to 3.5 billion despite a down new-car market.
The operating profit will likely be about 160 million, slightly less than in the preceding year, the company said. Exact figures will be published later. The decline is a result of high marketing costs in western Europe.
Porsche Holding has branched out considerably from its original stronghold in Austria. The company is active as a distributor and also operates new and used car and truck dealerships. Porsche Holding employs a total of 10,969. More than 40 percent of its work force is based in Austria.
