Volvo plans to highlight these XC90 safety features in its marketing for the new vehicle:
* Rollover prevention system.
* Roll angle sensor that measures the degree and rate at which the vehicle's body is leaning. If it senses a rollover is about to occur, the sensor activates the seat-belt pretensioners and triggers side-curtain airbags that run the length of the vehicle to protect all rows of seats.
* High-strength boron steel used in the A- and B-pillars and roof rails that helps keep the roof intact during a rollover.
* New design of the front-end structure, including an additional crossbeam under the front bumper. The design enables the XC90 to match up with the bumper structure of other cars, even though the XC90 is taller than conventional sedans.
