North American car and truck production in May rose 2.1 percent over May 2001. U.S. car production was down 0.4 percent; Canadian car production was up 4.4 percent; Mexican car production rose 6.2 percent; and North American car production declined 1.4 percent.
U.S. truck production increased 3.1 percent; Canadian truck production dropped 1.7 percent; Mexican truck production declined 8.0 percent; and North American truck production was up 2.7 percent.
U.S. car and truck production was up 1.6 percent; Canadian car and truck production increased 1.3 percent; and Mexican car and truck production rose 6.8 percent. Production of the Toyota Voltz began at NUMMI during May. The car is a rebadged Pontiac Vibe for export to Japan. General Motors' produced a record 240,998 trucks in the United States during May. The previous record was 240,567 in March 2000.
