Ford Motor Co. has contracted with Exide Technologies to supply the battery for its Focus Fuel Cell Vehicle.
The 12-volt Marathon M12V30 battery will store and distribute power produced by fuel cells to the vehicle's power steering system and other electric powered systems.
Exide also supplies batteries as original equipment for Ford's Taurus, Sable, F-Series, Explorer, Crown Victoria, and Grand Marquis.
Exide filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection April 15. The filing followed a $200 million loss reported for the quarter that ended Dec. 31, the third quarter of its fiscal year. That followed a $40 million loss in the first half of the fiscal year.
Part of the supplier's recovery plan involves expanding business with partners, such as Ford Motor.
