The Americanization of Toyota continues. The latest evidence is the charging of tuition at the Toyota Production System school in Kentucky. Since the program to teach lean manufacturing began a decade ago, the courses have been free to all comers.
The company says it will charge "market rates." Toyota is doing things the American way - providing a valuable service and charging a fee for it.
It's no longer necessary to play Mr. Nice Guy and court favor in the hope of avoiding trade sanctions. Toyota's U.S. employment total is too large to worry about such action by Congress.
