Four automobile ads are among the nominees for the 2002 OBBIE Award - the annual recognition of creativity in outdoor advertising awarded by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America.
Vying in the automotive category are Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich., for a Chevrolet truck ad; J. Walter Thompson, Detroit, for a Ford Thunderbird board; Lowe Advertising, New York, for Saab; and TBWA/Chiat/Day, Toronto, for an Infiniti G35 ad in Canada.
In 2001, outdoor advertising totaled $5.3 billion of which $85.7 million was spent by automakers, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Four of the top 20 outdoor brands were automotive advertisers: Dodge ranked seventh, Ford was eighth, Chevrolet ranked 13 and Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. was 16th.
The award will be presented June 3 at Parsons School of Design in New York.
