DETROIT - Buick will add a five-passenger sport-utility to its lineup in about 18 months. The vehicle will be based on General Motors' GM360 short-wheelbase vehicle architecture.
The 2004 Buick Rainier will feature all-wheel drive and be equipped with either GM's 270-hp, 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine or 285-hp, 5.3-liter V-8. Styling from the A-pillar forward will borrow cues from the Buick Rendezvous, sources said.
Other GM360 vehicles are the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada. The 2004 model year will be the Bravada's last.
