General Motors began producing its seven-seat Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL the week ending April 6 at its Moraine, Ohio, plant. Those models also are built in Oklahoma City, where production began in January. The Moraine plant also makes the smaller Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada. U.S. production of light trucks reached 2 million on Friday, April 12. That is 11 days earlier than in 2001.
Much of the increase can be attributed to GM, which has increased U.S. truck production 23.6 percent this year. Production of North American pickup trucks reached the 1 million mark on Wednesday, April 10. That was one day earlier than in 2001. Ford Motor Co. produced its 1 millionth Ford Division vehicle on Monday, April 8. That is one day later than in 2001.
