April 2 -- Bye, bye Blackwood. After only about a year in production, the Lincoln hybrid pickup will die at the end of this model year.
Some inside Ford Motor Co. refer to the hybrid luxo-truck as the "Jacwood." That’s because former Chairman Jac Nasser insisted it be built.
After start-up troubles, the Blackwood finally went on sale in November, just about the time Nasser was fired.
Another hybrid luxo-truck, Cadillac’s Escalade EXT, also went on sale about that time. Since then, the EXT, with a more functional midgate, has outsold the Blackwood about seven to one.
The Blackwood wasn’t intended to be around forever, but it was supposed to last longer than just one year.
Sometimes, you just can’t force it.
