Alabama is closer to being the home of Hyundai's first U.S. assembly plant, which is expected to cost about $1 billion and employ 2,000 people.
Gov. Don Siegelman last week signed legislation authorizing the sale of
$118 million in bonds for economic development related to the auto industry.
The measure doesn't mention Hyundai, but some lawmakers referred to it as the Hyundai incentive. Two state officials, insisting on anonymity, told Automotive News a statement will come within two weeks.
Hyundai Motor America has identified Alabama and Kentucky as the final contenders. Company spokesman Chris Hosford said a decision has not been made.
