LOS ANGELES - The 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan is priced at $19,990 with a five-speed manual transmission and $20,990 with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Prices include the destination charge.
The Civic Hybrid has a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. The nickel-metal hydride battery module is recharged by the gasoline engine during normal driving and by the electric powertrain during braking and deceleration. The cars are being shipped to dealers. The Hybrid is Honda's second hybrid model; the two-passenger Insight was introduced in 1999.
The Civic Hybrid has side airbags, alloy wheels, automatic climate control and electronic power steering.
Honda expects to sell about 2,000 Civic Hybrids each month.
