Shipments of motor homes and conversion vehicles were down 23.3 percent in 2001 compared with 2000, when 418,300 units were shipped.
Motor home shipments in 2001 dropped 19.2 percent to 49,200 units. Class B motor homes took the biggest percentage drop, down 23.5 percent. Class C shipments were down 20 percent. Class A shipments fell 18.5 percent.
But motor home shipments in December were up 2.6 percent compared with December 2000. Class B shipments doubled to 200 units, while Class A and Class C shipments were unchanged.
December was the second consecutive month of an upswing for motor homes.
Conversion vehicle shipments in 2001 fell 45.7 percent to 64,200 units from 118,200 units.
Pickup conversions had the steepest percentage decline, down 57.2 percent. Van conversions fell 41.1 percent.
Conversion shipments in December fell 32.8 percent. Sport-utility conversions took the sharpest fall in December, down 60 percent. Pickup conversions fell 55.6 percent.
