TIJUANA, Mexico - Toyota Motor Corp. will build a plant on 700 acres near Tijuana to produce pickup beds, the company said Friday, Jan. 4.
The plant will make and ship truck beds for Tacoma pickups, which are built at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. NUMMI is a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors, in Fremont, Calif.
Production is expected to begin in 2004. Plant construction will begin in the spring.
The company did not reveal details about employment or its planned investment.
