DETROIT - General Motors will not award merit-pay increases to salaried employees at mid-year, but may reinstate them later this year.
Spokesman Tom Wickham said GM will review the possibility of merit pay later in the year, depending on business conditions. Merit pay usually is awarded around June, he said. GM delayed the payments as part of efforts to cut costs, Wickham said.
GM officials have said they expect slow auto sales in the first half of the year, with a rebound in the second half.
